Description
Bukhara's old town is best seen on foot. With your own guide you walk from the pool of Lyab-i Hauz through covered trading domes, past madrasas and mosques, to the great Kalyan Minaret and the walls of the Ark, the fortress of the emirs.
Along the way you hear the stories behind more than a thousand years of history, from the 10th-century Samanid Mausoleum, a masterpiece of brickwork, to the four turquoise towers of Chor Minor. Stops for tea, photos and shopping in the craft workshops are part of the walk.
Not included: entrance fees and lunch. The tour starts at your hotel if it is in the old town. For groups of more than 10 people, please contact us.
Itinerary
Start at the shaded pool framed by madrasas, then walk to Chor Minor, the gatehouse with four blue-domed towers.

The 12th-century Kalyan Minaret, the Kalyan Mosque and the Mir-i-Arab Madrasa: the most famous view in Bukhara.
The massive fortress where the emirs of Bukhara lived and ruled, with its museums and courtyards.
The emir's Friday mosque, with a porch of slender carved wooden columns reflected in its pool.
