Itinerary
An early start from Samarkand and a 3–4 hour drive as green countryside gives way to desert. In Nurata, visit the fortress said to have been founded by Alexander the Great in the 4th century BC, and the Chashma complex with its sacred spring, believed to have healing powers. After a traditional lunch, drive about 2 hours to Aydarkul Lake for a swim or a rest on the shore. Evening at a yurt camp: a camel ride, dinner cooked by local chefs, a campfire with local music, and a night in a traditional yurt.
After breakfast at the camp, drive towards Bukhara (about 4–5 hours). Stop in Gijduvan, a town of master potters, to watch the artisans at work in the craft centre and have lunch. Continue across the Kyzylkum to Bukhara, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening at your hotel.
