7-Day Uzbekistan Itinerary: A First-Timer's Silk Road Journey
A practical one-week Uzbekistan itinerary covering Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and the highlights of the Silk Road.
One week is enough to experience several of Uzbekistan's most important Silk Road cities if the route is planned efficiently. A well-designed seven-day itinerary can combine modern Tashkent with the monumental architecture of Samarkand and the atmospheric old streets of Bukhara.
Day 1 can begin in Tashkent. Explore the Old City, Khast Imam area, local markets and selected modern landmarks. Keep the first day flexible if you are arriving after a long international flight.
Day 2 is ideal for Samarkand. Travel by train where convenient and spend the afternoon discovering Registan Square, one of Central Asia's most recognizable architectural ensembles. Continue to Gur-e-Amir and enjoy an evening walk through the city.
Day 3 allows more time in Samarkand. Visit Bibi-Khanym Mosque, Siyob Bazaar, Shah-i-Zinda and the ancient Afrasiab area. Depending on your interests, add Ulugh Beg's astronomical heritage or a local craft workshop.
Day 4 is a travel day toward Bukhara. After arrival, begin exploring the historic center around Lyabi-Hauz. The compact old city is especially enjoyable on foot.
Day 5 is dedicated to Bukhara. Visit the Poi-Kalyan ensemble, trading domes, madrassas, Ark Fortress and other historic sites. Leave time for tea, crafts and quiet streets rather than trying to rush between every monument.
Day 6 can be used for more Bukhara sightseeing or a flexible excursion before returning toward Tashkent, depending on transport schedules.
Day 7 is best kept adaptable for departure or final shopping and sightseeing.
Travelers who have more time should consider extending the route to Khiva. Travelers interested in nature can instead add Aydarkul Lake or the Nuratau Mountains, although this works better with an additional night.
The key to a successful one-week journey is not simply the number of cities. It is the balance between sightseeing, travel time and rest. A private itinerary also makes it easier to adjust the pace.
Uzora Travel can customize a seven-day route around your arrival city, preferred hotels, train connections and interests.
